cover for the single 'spoken for' by flavor foley, featuring an illustration of UTAU gajinka kasane teto in the style of the game rhythm heaven. she's winking anxiously and holding a microphone
as she's posed in a heart frame around her face. musician: FLAVOR FOLEY
genre: electro-pop/voice synth
release: 2025
my format: digital
my rating: 8.5/10

spoken for

i'm not usually one to listen to voice synth music anymore, but this single is really enjoyable! it's one of those songs that sounds very cute and poppy in tandem with dark themes. in my opinion, pulling that off has become increasingly difficult because of so much media that goes that route, leading to over-saturation and audience irritation.

this song strikes a balance and remains as an great example of an edgy, cute pop song which acknowledges that it's still a little silly!

the story of the song also revolving around teto's voicebank randomly rising to success when it was created as an april fool's joke, the stress of being a pop star eating her alive, is a treat for UTAU and vocaloid fans! lone's designs for the music video are also a huge reason why i love it!

cover for louie zong's album 'mineral hall'. it's a 3D CGI illustration of a huge blue crystal in a display case in a museum space with a checkered floor. there is
an orange facade in front of the illustration, framing the scene. musician: louie zong
genre: synth
release: 2023
my format: digital
my rating: 8/10
favorite songs: petrified wood, ancient zircon

mineral hall

louie zong does it agaaain! i guess i would call this like a playful dungeonsynth album. depending on my mood, the atmosphere it provides can feel contemplative and fantastical or low-key and fun. it's a regular in my collection of fantasy synth music and i don't see it getting old any time soon.

cover for the band and one's album 'bodypop'. it's almost entirely orange with two figures in the style of simple signage illustrations. the figure of a woman stands still
and a the smaller figure of a man runs to the left, following an arrow which says the title of the album. musician/band: and one
genre: electro-pop
release: 2006
my format: digital
my rating: 8/10
favorite songs: military fashion show, so klingt liebe, stand the pain, body company

bodypop

when "military fashion show" blew up in ~2023, i heard it for the first time and was hooked, but there are other songs in "bodypop" by and one that rival its thoroughly addictive, almost industrial electro-pop beat.

"so klingt liebe" (tl. "the sound of love") is a dreamy, seductive, almost comically sensual favorite of mine now. it's honestly been stuck in my head for like a year and i always clap during the pre-chorus! meanwhile "stand the pain" and "body company" fill the same niche of my unending need for dramatic pop with a strong beat, their sexy percussion warrants countless re-listens.

i recommend listening to this album all the way through sometime, as the songs blend into each other seamlessly and it's a great listening experience!

cover for hakita's album 'music for digital musems'.
illustration of a white marble portrait statue of a man on a pedestal in a dreamlike hallway. musician: hakita
genre: ambient, vaporwave
release: 2022
my format: digital
my rating: 10/10 yellow spark gif
favorite songs: closing time, the world and so much more

music for digital museums

i was very surprised to find that hakita (AKA "heaven pierce her", the musician behind the stellar, blood-pumping metal OST of ULTRAKILL) made this album.

even when my severe anxiety has me sleepless and sobbing in the dead of night, "closing time" and "the world, and so much more" are two of the very few songs which can soothe me. it brings a kind of soothing clarity with its gentle, layered melodies which bring me peace in my worst moments as it shows me that tranquility is possible. if i were to liken it to any sensation, it would be the feeling of relief as you wash your face with cool water after crying.

this album is short and sweet, but can be listened to as many times as your weary heart needs.

cover for luxury elite's album 'world class'. it's simple,
mostly a dark plummy-brown color with a small image of a city skyline and the title/tracklist/etc. aligned around the image. musician: luxury elite
genre: vaporwave
release: 2015
my format: digital
my rating: 9/10
favorite songs: S.W.A.K., blush, strut (猫 シ corp. remix)

world class

i've listened to this album countless times, honestly. anything vaporwave is a guilty pleasure of mine, but this is some of the best i know.

it's calm, sexy, and low-key. it helps me focus and is always welcome in the rotation when i'm trying to draw/write something sensual.

cover for ACE's album 'eurobeat ace vol. 1.

eurobeat ace vol. 1

this album is SOOO FUN!!! eurobeat is a genre i love to put on when i need a shot of adrenaline... no wonder i'm such a big fan of ACE's song "adrenaline"!

this album a joy to listen to, it's full of energy and very catchy. there's a lighthearted nature to it and i find it a little silly at times, but only in a good way. i didn't realize how much i loved their song "me and you" until i bought the album for myself on bandcamp. it is SO sweet, i had it stuck in my head for a few days and it'll definitely happen again.

i may not be a fan of the multiple covers/editions included in this album and i tend to skip them, but everything else is a must-listen imo!
